Bio

Matt Catalano is a Sound and Tech artist in his final year as an undergraduate at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. He studies in the Sound and Art+Tech programs at SAIC with an occasional painting or blacksmithing class sprinkled in. This brings him to an artistic position where he is fascinated by the physical and mystical properties of sound, its influence in nature, and how it can be utilized as digital input in generative art to better visualize it. He is interested in utilizing code to create art that will help him better understand sound and light frequencies, as well as the creation of digital spaces.

Statement

Inspired by the mystical properties of sound, I aim to create art that brings the viewer to a meditative/hypnotic state. I believe that all physical matter gains its geometric form from sound frequencies, and that sound as a form of vibrational energy is at the fundamental core of how the universe operates and holds itself together.

My main goal is to create art that invokes the use of multiple senses at once, since using our senses is how we know we are alive. When thinking of sound, it is equated with 1 sense, hearing. I want to make sound art that is equated with multiple senses where you do not just hear, but you can see and feel it as well.
